Taxonomy: Cuculus solitarius Stephens, 1815, eastern Cape Province.
Population on Bioko (Fernando Póo), off Cameroon, sometimes treated as separate race magnirostris, on account of larger bill, but shows no other differences and probably does not merit recognition. Monotypic.
Distribution: Senegal through Nigeria to S Sudan and Ethiopia, and S through Zaire, Angola, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Mozambique to S South Africa; Bioko.
