Spanish: Rabijunco Etéreo
Taxonomy: Phaëthon aethereus Linnaeus, 1758, Ascension Island.
Race indicus sometimes considered separate species, but differences slight and separation does not appear justified. Three subspecies recognized.
Subspecies and Distribution:
- mesonauta Peters, 1930 - E Pacific, Caribbean and E Atlantic.
- aethereus Linnaeus, 1758 - S Atlantic.
- indicus Hume, 1876 - Persian Gulf, Gulf of Aden, Red Sea.
