Taxonomy: Pionus rufiventris Rüppell, 1845, Shoa.
Probably belongs in superspecies with P. meyeri, P. rueppellii, P. cryptoxanthus and P. crassus. Two subspecies recognized.
Subspecies and Distribution:
- pallidus van Someren, 1922 - E Ethiopia and Somalia.
- rufiventris (Rüppell, 1845) - C Ethiopia to N Tanzania.
