Taxonomy: Trochilus Herrani DeLattre and Bourcier, 1846, Pasto, Colombia.
In past, sometimes separated in monospecific genus Eupogonus. Two subspecies recognized.
Subspecies and Distribution:
- tolimae Kleinschmidt, 1927 - Volcán Tolima in C Andes of Colombia.
- herrani (DeLattre & Bourcier, 1846) - W Andes of Colombia (Munchique to Nariño) through both slopes in Ecuador to N Peru (Piura).
