Taxonomy: Tetrao coromandelicus Gmelin, 1789, Coromandel coast.
Forms superspecies with C. delegorguei. Monotypic.

Distribution: Pakistan E to Burma and W Thailand and S through India. Recent record from S Vietnam would extend range to SE considerably.
