Taxonomy: Accentor ocularis Radde, 1884, Mount Kiz Yurdi, Talysh Mountains, Azerbaijan-Iran border.
Was formerly often considered conspecific with P. fulvescens and/or P. fagani, but appears more closely allied to P. atrogularis, with which it shares some features and perhaps constitutes a superspecies; all four belong to a species group that also includes P. montanella and P. koslowi. Monotypic.

Distribution: S & E Turkey, Armenia, W & SE Azerbaijan and mountains of N, SW & E Iran.
