Taxonomy: Trochilus longicaudus J. F. Gmelin, 1788, no locality = Cayenne.
Often treated as sole member of genus Discosura, the remaining species being separated off in Popelairia; genus closely related to Lophornis. Monotypic.
Distribution: S Venezuela (Amazonas, Bolívar) and the Guianas to NC Brazil (N Amazonas to Amapá); also NE Brazil (Rio Grande do Norte to Espírito Santo).
