Genus often subsumed into Lamprotornis. Forms a superspecies with H. cupreocauda. Monotypic.
Distribution: S Nigeria and S Cameroon E to S Central African Republic, Uganda and W Kenya, S to N Angola (Cabinda) and SW, N & NE DRCongo.
