Taxonomy: Geositta punensis Dabbene, 1917, La Quiaca, 3300 metres, Jujuy, Argentina.
Plumage similarities suggest that closest relationship is with G. saxicolina and G. rufipennis. Monotypic.
Distribution: Altiplano region of Andes of extreme S Peru (Puno), W Bolivia (La Paz S to Potosí), NW Chile (Tarapacá S to Atacama) and NW Argentina (Jujuy S to Catamarca).
