Taxonomy: Procellaria fuliginosa Gmelin, 1789, Tahiti.
Polymorphism has led to description of several bogus subspecies. Monotypic.
Distribution: Tropical S Pacific, from Vanuatu (New Hebrides) and Kiribati (Gilbert Is) E to Marquesas and Gambier Is, and possibly Sala y Gómez.
