Taxonomy: Goethalsia bella Nelson, 1912, Cana, 2000 feet [c. 600 m], Panama.
Considered a close relative of Goldmania and perhaps of Hylocharis, sharing with former the long, stiffened central undertail-coverts; behaviour and external morphology show similarities with Eupherusa. Monotypic.

Distribution: E Panama (Cerro Sapo and Cerro Pirre, in Darién) and extreme NW Colombia (Alturas de Nique, Chocó).
