Taxonomy: Tetrao Alchata Linnaeus, 1766, Spain.
Two subspecies recognized.
Subspecies and Distribution:
- alchata (Linnaeus, 1766) - Iberian Peninsula and SE France.
- caudacutus (S. G. Gmelin, 1774) - NW Africa, from Morocco E to N Libya; SE Turkey and Middle East through Iraq and Iran E to Uzbekistan and S Kazakhstan.
