Taxonomy: Hirundo leucosoma Swainson, 1837, West Africa.
In the past was sometimes placed with H. megaensis and H. dimidiata in a separate genus Hemicecrops, and has been thought by some authors to form a superspecies with those. Monotypic.
Distribution: Senegambia, N Guinea, NW Sierra Leone, S Mali, Burkina Faso, SW Niger, and N Ivory Coast and Ghana E to C Nigeria.
