Pectoral Sandpiper (Calidris melanotos)

Spanish: Correlimos Pectoral
Taxonomy: Tringa melanotos Vieillot, 1819, Paraguay.
Formerly placed in genus Erolia. Recently discovered Cox’s Sandpiper “C. paramelanotos” shown to be hybrid between C. ferruginea and, most probably, present species (see page 446). Monotypic.
Distribution: Taymyr E through Chukotskiy Peninsula to W & N Alaska, NC Canada and W Hudson Bay; recent records from Yamal Peninsula, NW Siberia. Winters from S Bolivia, Paraguay and N Argentina to S Argentina; much smaller population in SE Australia, Tasmania and New Zealand.
