Taxonomy: Macronyx aurantiigula Reichenow, 1891, Pangani River, east Tanzania.
Genus probably closely related to Tmetothylacus and Hemimacronyx. May form a superspecies with M. ameliae. Birds from S Kenya sometimes separated as race subocularis. Monotypic.
Distribution: SE Somalia, SE Kenya (S on coast to Mombasa) and NE Tanzania (Arusha, W Tanga).
