Taxonomy: Leptoptila [sic] pallida Berlepsch and Taczanowski, 1884, Chimbo, Ecuador.
Formerly considered a race of L. rufaxilla; these two may form superspecies with L. plumbeiceps, and possibly also with L. battyi and L. wellsi. Monotypic.
Distribution: Tropical lowlands of Pacific coast in W Colombia (from R San Juan) and Ecuador (S to Loja).
