Taxonomy: Columba cayennensis Bonnaterre, 1792, French Guiana.
Has no obvious close relatives; one proposal is that it may be intermediate in some respects between the C. fasciata and C. flavirostris superspecies. Formerly listed as C. rufina. Five subspecies recognized.
