Other common names: Bamboo Woodpecker (when lumped with G. viridis)
Taxonomy: Picus (Chrysonotus) Grantia McClelland, 1840, Assam.
Forms a superspecies with G. viridis, and the two are sometimes treated as conspecific. Three subspecies recognized.
Subspecies and Distribution:
- grantia (McClelland, 1840) - E Nepal E to N, C & S Myanmar and S China (W Yunnan).
- indochinensis Delacour, 1927 - SW Yunnan, NW Thailand, Laos and Vietnam.
- viridanus Slater, 1897 - SE China (N Guangdong, Fujian).
