Barbets (Capitonidae)
Orange-fronted Barbet (Capito squamatus) - HBW 7, p. 213
French: Cabézon à nuque blanche
German: Weißnacken-Bartvogel
Spanish: Cabezón Escamoso
Other common names: Rufous-fronted Barbet
Taxonomy: Capito squamatus Salvin, 1876, Santa Rita, Ecuador.
Has been thought to form a superspecies with C. maculicoronatus; shares some plumage patterns with that species, but probably not very closely related, and is separated geographically from it by divergent C. quinticolor. Possibly distantly related to C. hypoleucus. Monotypic.
Distribution: Extreme SW Colombia (SW Nariño) and W Ecuador (S to El Oro).
