Taxonomy: Psittacus Barrabandi Kuhl, 1820, Brazil.
May form superspecies or parapatric species trio with P. caica and P. vulturina. Two subspecies recognized.
Subspecies and Distribution:
- barrabandi (Kuhl, 1820) - SW Colombia and S Venezuela to Brazil N of Amazon (E to R Negro).
- aurantiigena Gyldenstolpe, 1951 - E Ecuador, E Peru and N Bolivia to Brazil S of Amazon (E to R Madeira).
