Taxonomy: Vinago bicincta Jerdon, 1840, coast south of Tellicherry, India.
Most closely allied to T. vernans. Validity of races requires verification. Four subspecies tentatively recognized.

Subspecies and Distribution:

  • leggei Hartert, 1910 - Sri Lanka.
  • bicincta (Jerdon, 1840) - Indian Subcontinent (Himalayan foothills of Uttar Pradesh S to Western Ghats and Kerala, and E to Assam) through Myanmar and Thailand (except C) to S Laos, S & C Vietnam and N Malaysia.
  • domvilii (Swinhoe, 1870) - Hainan I.
  • javana Robinson & Kloss, 1923 - Java and Bali.
