Taxonomy: Pipreola jucunda P. L. Sclater, 1860, Cachillacta, Pichincha, Ecuador.
Closely related to P. aureopectus, P. lubomirskii and P. pulchra, and all sometimes treated as conspecific, but plumages distinct; geographical range overlap, but without intergradation, between present species and P. aureopectus in SW Colombia (Nariño). Monotypic.
Distribution: W slope of W Andes in Colombia (S from S Chocó) and Ecuador (S to Guayas).
