Taxonomy: Pipra suavissima Salvin and Godman, 1882, Merume Mountains and Bartica, Guyana.
Genus often merged with Pipra. Until recently treated as conspecific with L. serena, but differs markedly in voice and in syringeal anatomy, as well as in male plumage characters. Monotypic.

Distribution: Montane zone of S & SE Venezuela, NC Guyana, and adjacent extreme N Brazil.
