Other common names: Olive-backed Three-toed Woodpecker, Raffles’s Woodpecker
Taxonomy: Picus Rafflesii Vigors and Horsfield, 1830, no locality = Sumatra.
Individual variation considerable, and races poorly marked, differing only in size; described race peninsulare (Malacca) considered synonymous with nominate. Two subspecies recognized.
Subspecies and Distribution:
- rafflesii (Vigors & Horsfield, 1830) - S Myanmar (S Tennaserim) and peninsular Thailand S to Sumatra, including Bangka.
- dulitense Delacour, 1946 - Borneo.
