Other common names: Nicobar Scrubhen/Megapode; North Nicobar Megapode (nicobariensis); South Nicobar Megapode (abbotti)

Taxonomy: Megapodius nicobariensis Blyth, 1846, Nicobar Islands.
Formerly included in M. freycinet. Generally considered to form part of the M. freycinet superspecies; apparently very close to M. cumingii. Two subspecies recognized.

Subspecies and Distribution:

  • nicobariensis Blyth, 1846 - C & N Nicobar Is, except Chaura and Car Nicobar.
  • abbotti Oberholser, 1919 - Great & Little Nicobar Is.
