Taxonomy: Oriolus percivali Ogilvie-Grant, 1903, Kikuyu Highlands, Kenya.
Closely related to and sometimes treated as conspecific with O. larvatus, with which it mayhybridize in C Kenya, but the two differ in ecology and vocalizations; both belong to the “African black-headed group”, which includes also O. chlorocephalus, O. crassirostris, O. brachyrhynchus, O. monacha and O. nigripennis. Monotypic.
Distribution: Montane forests of E DRCongo, Uganda, Kenya, NW Rwanda, Burundi and W Tanzania.
