Taxonomy: Penthetria psammocromia Reichenow, 1900, Ukinga, Tanzania.
Previously thought to form a superspecies, or even to be conspecific, with E. hartlaubi, but recent molecular studies suggest that the two species are not even sister-taxa; may be closest to E. progne. Monotypic.
Distribution: Highlands of SW Tanzania, and extreme NE Zambia and N Malawi (Nyika Plateau).
