Taxonomy: Pogonorhynchus frontatus Cabanis, 1880, Angola.
Forms a superspecies with T. diademata and T. leucomelas, and all three have in the past been considered conspecific; all respond strongly to playback of each other’s song. Known to hybridize occasionally with T. leucomelas in S Zambia. Fairly closely related also to T. lacrymosa. Monotypic.
Distribution: S Zaire to SW Tanzania and S to C Angola, S Zambia and W Malawi.
