Taxonomy: Tatare familiaris Rothschild, 1892, Laysan Island, Hawaii.
Relationships with other members of genus unclear, possibly not close. Race kingi sometimes treated as a full species because of morphological differences. Nominate race (restricted to Laysan) extinct. One extant subspecies recognized.
