Taxonomy: Thalurania ridgwayi Nelson, 1900, San Sebastian, Jalisco, Mexico.
Forms a superspecies with T. colombica, T. fannyi and T. furcata; species limits unclear, and all four have been considered conspecific. Alternatively, blue-crowned present species often considered a race of purple-crowned T. colombica. Monotypic.
Distribution: Pacific slope of Mexico, in S Nayarit, Jalisco and Colima.
