Taxonomy: Sylvia polyglotta Vieillot, 1817, France.
Sister-species of H. icterina, the two being fairly close to the sister-species pair formed by H. languida and H. olivetorum. Monotypic.
Distribution: Breeds France (except N parts) and Iberia E to S Belgium, SW Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Slovenia and W Croatia, and in NW Africa; non-breeding W Africa.
