Taxonomy: Mirafra cheniana A. Smith, 1843, no locality = Latakoo, northern South Africa.
Sometimes placed in a superspecies with M. javanica, M. cantillans, M. albicauda and M. passerina, but validity of this grouping remains to be tested. Monotypic.
Distribution: C Zimbabwe, SE Botswana and E South Africa.
