Taxonomy: Myiagra caledonica Bonaparte, 1857, New Caledonia.
Closely related to and often considered to form a superspecies with M. rubecula, M. ferrocyanea, M. cervinicauda, M. vanikorensis and M. albiventris. Five subspecies recognized.
