Taxonomy: Palæornis echo A. and E. Newton, 1876, Mauritius.
Has been treated as a race of P. krameri, or of extinct P. eques from Reunion; name echo even regarded as a junior synonym of eques, being indistinguishable from descriptions of the latter, of which no specimens survive. Monotypic.
