Taxonomy: [Lanius] Nengeta L innaeus, 1766, Brazil.
Races geographically very remote from each other, sometimes suggested as representing two distinct species. Two subspecies recognized.
Subspecies and Distribution:
- atripennis P. L. Sclater, 1860 - W Ecuador (S from Esmeraldas) S to extreme NW Peru.
- nengeta (Linnaeus, 1766) - E Brazil from Maranhão E to Rio Grande do Norte, S to Minas Gerais, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
