Taxonomy: Podica personata G. R. Gray, 1849, Malacca.
Suggested subdivision of family into two subfamilies places present species in Podicinae alongside Podica senegalensis. Monotypic.
Distribution: Bangladesh and NE India (Assam) through Myanmar and Thailand to Cambodia and Vietnam; status uncertain in Malaysia and Sumatra, but recently recorded all year round in NW Sumatra.
