Marbled Murrelet (Brachyramphus marmoratus) - HBW 3, p. 713

Other common names: Long-billed Murrelet

Taxonomy: Colymbus marmoratus Gmelin, 1789, Prince William Sound, Alaska.
Recent work suggests race perdix may be distinct species, but evidence incomplete and further examination required. Two subspecies recognized.

Subspecies and Distribution:

  • perdix (Pallas, 1811) - Kamchatka and Sea of Okhotsk S to N Japan (Hokkaido).
  • marmoratus (Gmelin, 1789) - W Aleutians (Attu I) to Barren Is and SE Alaska, S to C California (Santa Cruz Mts).
