Taxonomy: Pteroglossus pluricinctus Gould, 1836, River Solimões, Brazil.
Belongs to the “P. torquatus group”, which also includes P. aracari, P. castanotis, P. torquatus and P. frantzii; within this group possibly closest to P. castanotis and P. aracari. Female hybrid between present species and P. aracari atricollis known from SE Venezuela (Carapo, R Paragua). Monotypic.

Distribution: NE Colombia and NW & SE Venezuela S in lowlands to NE Peru (S to R Ucayali, but mostly N of R Marañón) and NW Brazil (N of R Solimões, E to N Roraima, middle R Negro and upper R Japurá).
