Taxonomy: Ardea Maguari Gmelin, 1789, north eastern Brazil.
Formerly placed in monospecific genus Euxenura. Specific name galeata older, but indeterminable. Monotypic.
Distribution: S America E of Andes, from Venezuela to Argentina.
