Taxonomy: Anas semipalmata Latham, 1798, Hawkesbury River, New South Wales.
A primitive, aberrant goose, sometimes thought to be sufficiently distinct to be placed in its own family, Anseranatidae (see page 540). Monotypic.

Distribution: N Australia and S New Guinea. Reintroduced in Victoria, SE Australia, where formerly widespread.
