Taxonomy: Chettusia crassirostris Hartlaub, 1855, Nubia.
In past, commonly placed in monospecific genus Hemiparra. Races intergrade in Tanzania, SE Zaire and N Malawi, and these intermediate birds formerly separated as race hybrida. Two subspecies recognized.
Subspecies and Distribution:
- crassirostris (Hartlaub, 1855) - S Sudan through Uganda, E Zaire, W Kenya and Tanzania to N Malawi; W Angola; also NE Nigeria, where may not breed.
- leucopterus Reichenow, 1889 - Tanzania, SE Zaire, Zambia and Malawi to E Angola, N Botswana and NE South Africa.
