Taxonomy: Chætocercus bombus Gould, 1871, Citado, Ecuador.
Usually placed in genus Acestrura, along with C. mulsant, C. heliodor, C. astreans and C. berlepschi, but no evidence in external morphology justifies treatment in a genus separate from C. jourdanii. Monotypic.
Distribution: Andes of extreme SW Colombia (S Nariño) and W Ecuador to N Peru; also locally in E Ecuador and NC Peru (Huánuco).
