Taxonomy: Tringa minuta Leisler, 1812, Hanau am Main, Germany.
Formerly placed in genus Erolia. May form superspecies with C. ruficollis. Monotypic.

Distribution: N Scandinavia through S Novaya Zemlya and NW & NC Siberia to New Siberian Is and R Yana. Winters from Mediterranean and Africa through Arabian Peninsula and Persian Gulf E to Indian Subcontinent and Myanmar; small numbers in SE Britain and Madagascar.
