Taxonomy: Muscicapa megarhyncha Quoy and Gaimard, 1830, Dorey, Vogelkop, New Guinea.
Formerly placed in a monotypic genus, Myiolestes. Pale race parvula has been treated as a separate species, but hybridizes with neighbouring aelptes. Described race wuroi (from S New Guinea) synonymized with goodsoni; conigravi (from Admiralty Gulf, in N Western Australia) merged with parvula. Twenty-eight subspecies recognized.
