Taxonomy: Carbo sulcirostris Brandt, 1837, New South Wales.
Sometimes placed in genus Hypoleucos. Division into two or three subspecies appears to be unjustified. Monotypic.
Distribution: Indonesia E to New Guinea, Australia, Tasmania and N New Zealand.
