Taxonomy: Dendrocolaptes albo-lineatus Lafresnaye, 1846, Colombia or Mexico; error = “Cayenne”.
Apparently most closely related to L. souleyetii and to L. affinis and L. lacrymiger; one study based on morphology, however, suggested that it may be the sister to L. angustirostris and L. leucogaster. Nominate race is morphologically distinct, with remaining races (the “fuscicapillus group”) recognized by some authors as a separate species. Five subspecies recognized.

  • albolineatus (Lafresnaye, 1846) - NE Amazonia, in E Venezuela (NE Bolívar; sight record from NE Monagas), the Guianas and N Brazil (N of Amazon R from R Branco and R Negro E to Amapá).
  • duidae J. T. Zimmer, 1934 - NW Amazonia, in E Colombia (Vaupés), S Venezuela (W & S Bolívar, Amazonas) and NW Brazil (W of R Negro, N of R Solimões).
  • fuscicapillus (Pelzeln, 1868) - SW Amazonia, from E Ecuador and E Peru E to S Amazonian Brazil (E to R Madeira) and S to N & E Bolivia.
