Lewin's Rail (Lewinia pectoralis) - HBW 3, p. 171

Other common names: Slate-breasted Rail, Lewin's Water Rail

Taxonomy: Rallus pectoralis Temminck, 1831, New South Wales.
Sometimes placed in Dryolimnas or Rallus. Forms superspecies with L. mirificus and L. muelleri, both of which are on occasion considered races of present species. Eight subspecies recognized.

  • mayri (Hartert, 1930) - Arfak Mts, W New Guinea.
  • captus (Mayr & Gilliard, 1951) - C New Guinea.
