Taxonomy: Fringilla caerulescens Vieillot, 1817, Senegal.
Has been thought to form a superspecies with E. perreini, possibly with E. thomensis included in same grouping. Monotypic.
Distribution: Senegal, Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, N Guinea and S Mali (upper R Niger) E to N Nigeria, N Cameroon, S Chad and N Central African Republic.Introduced in Hawaiian Is.
