Taxonomy: Cuculus Klaas Stephens, 1815, Cape Province.
Birds from Arabia were proposed as possible race arabicus. Monotypic.
Distribution: Senegal E to Sudan and Ethiopia and S to South Africa, including Bioko (Fernando Póo); possibly also in SW Arabia, where status unclear.
