Taxonomy: Halieus (Hypoleucus) verrucosus Cabanis, 1875, Kerguelen.
Often considered race of P. atriceps. Sometimes placed in genus Notocarbo. Occasional occurrence of birds with white wing bars exclusively in E Kerguelen might suggest recent arrival of some individuals of P. melanogenis or P. nivalis, which might subsequently have hybridized with local birds. Monotypic.
